Took a recon trip Tuesday evening to scout out the HRBT and MMBT along the light lines to see how the schoolie striper bite is. In years past this time of year you could always manage a decent bite but Tuesday was dead everywhere we went. Tried the Norfolk and Hampton side of the HRBT and the Suffolk side of the MMBT and bite was slow slow. Hoping that bite turns on soon as those are fun evening trips.
Grabbed a couple hours of sleep and headed back offshore Wednesday. Good bite of nice BSB with some triggers and bluefish mixed in on the wrecks. Headed out to the blueline grounds and kept finding mostly big BSB. Never seen so many big BSB in open waters on the tile grounds. Good sign the BSB numbers are good out there. Finally found a small pocket holding good blueline and limited out quickly. Tried in the deep for grouper and golden tile but had a tough time with the strong currents. Managed a limit of BSB and bluelines for an excellent hump day trip.
