January 1st, 2017.
Happy New Year to everyone. We hope that 2017 brings full fish boxes for everyone. The last few weeks Seaduction has been fishing inside the bay mostly for striped bass. We did not catch too many big ones this year as the bite was widely scattered but did pretty good on the schoolie sized rockfish. The bay is now closed for striped bass but the coastal zone is still open but they have to be inside 3 miles to legally keep. I will keep my ears to the ground and if the striper show up inside 3 miles I will run some trips. But at this point it is probably a long shot. BSB season also closed on December 31st so fishing opportunities remain few. We can still keep blueline and golden tile as well as other deep drop species (just not BSB). There is a new amendment for blueline that should be approved around April that will close blueline tile from 1 Nov – 1 May every year so next winter we will no blueline to fish for but still open this winter. Those wanting to deep drop I can still run those trips but need a good weather window and know that we will have to pick through the dog sharks to get on the meat fish. Tog remains open but need to get on the offshore wrecks as the inshore bite is slowing with the cold water temps. Looking forward to 2017.
